The Blind Side really wasn't all that special.
They should just give Avatar "Visual Effects" now. That is the only 100% one it should win.
Anyway, early predictions:
Best Picture
The Hurt Locker
Actress, Supporting
Mo’Nique, Precious
Actor, Supporting
Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds
Actress
Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side
Actor
Colin Firth, A Single Man
Directing
Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker
Original Screenplay
Inglourious Basterds
Adapted Screenplay
Up in the Air
Foreign Film
Un Prophete (France)
Animated Film
Up
Although I would love it if Basterds took the best picture, it wouldn't. But it's a perfectly crafted movie.

Basterds was amazing, I hope Waltz gets best supporting.
I'll have to rent Hurt Locker, haven't seen it yet, and I'd like to see Precious as well. Heard that Mo'Nique played a real vicious bitch in that one.
If Firth wins for Best Actor, I'll be shocked someone finally beat out Jeff Bridges. Heard nothing but great reviews about him in Crazy Heart.

I'm pretty much in agreement with all your predictions. I love Avatar, but I don't think it necessarily deserves Best Picture. It should definitely go to "The Hurt Locker".
As for "Up", it was an incredible animated film, absolutely beautiful in 3-D. I think it deserves to be in the Best Picture category.
And Colin Firth had better win. <3

I am glad District 9 got a BP nod. It's very well deserved. it won't win but I'm glad it's getting some recognition.
I'm so happy for Christoph! He's about as sure as Heath was last year for TDK. He's got it in the bag.

It actually used to be the norm. They are pretty much doing it now to make money. Some people will be more likely to tune in to the show if their favorite movie is nominated. And then there are those who like to see every nominee before the show.

Hurt locker was a great movie. I honestly think I enjoyed avatar more. However, serious drama is almost always going to win out, even if Avatar had a script with some substance.

I'm really hoping they will get this! I saw it not long ago and loved it.
I was hoping for a Golden Globe also but it didn't happen. I can't say anything against the winner though, since I didn't see it.
